Located 13 miles NE of downtown Los Angeles, Arcadia is best known as the home of the Santa Anita racetrack. During the war years, the racetrack was used as an Internment camp for Japanese Americans until they were moved further east and the make shift barracks were then used by the army. Arcadia boomed in the 50's and 60's and in that time the Los Angeles Arboretum and Botanical Gardens were created. A man was arrested Wednesday afternoon in connection to a carjacking incident that caused a school lockdown as officers searched for him in Arcadia. Just after 1:40 p.m., Arcadia police said they located and arrested the man who they believe may have been armed with a gun.

Murder suspect extradited from Minnesota

A man wanted in connection with the killing of his girlfriend has been extradited from Minnesota and will face charges, officials said Friday. Isaac Campbell, 32, of Alhambra was being held downtown in Men's Central Jail in lieu of $1.2million bail, according to official records.
