Police parked in a parking lot heard shots fired in the 1300 block of Clarendon Avenue SW, arriving in time to see more gunshots fired from a vehicle about 4 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2. A short time later, the officers arrested one previously convicted felon who is a sex offender and the other previously convicted felon with heroin in his pants. Police say Michael A. Townes Jr., 28, of 960 Jefferson Ave. in Alliance, fired more shots from the car as he drove north on Clarendon.

The Ohio Department of Commerce on Thursday announced the provisional licenses for operations up to 25,000 square feet and a final license for small-scale operations of up to 3,000 square feet, totaling 24 licenses equally split by size. Stark County Sheriff George T. Maier was awarded the Medal of Honor at the annual conference of the Buckeye State Sheriffs' Association held Nov. 12 and 13 in Sandusky. Maier was nominated for recognition in response to his actions on May 11 that led to the rescue and safe removal of two toddlers from a motor vehicle that had rolled into the West Branch of Nimishillen Creek.

Man sentenced to prison for sex with teen girl
