Founded in 1827 Danville was made up of eighty donated acres. The city was named for Dan Beckwith who donated twenty of those acres. It became a large coal mining area in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Today the city has seventeen parks including a full dog park called FETCH, and the Danville Village Mall. Shooting in Danville sends 66-year-old to hospital

Cmdr. Josh Webb said police responded to a call for a home invasion at a residence in the 1000 block of Koehn Street at 12:31 a.m. When they arrived, they found a 66-year-old man with a gunshot wound on the right side of his torso. Witnesses said the man was shot when he confronted two black male suspects who had kicked in the door to the home.

Vermilion County Board to discuss dangerous-dog ordinances after attacks

A Vermilion County Board committee plans to discuss dangerous-dog ordinances tonight after three Danville residents complained about a dog that allegedly attacked one dog twice and killed another, but the county's attorney is not sure any changes would have altered the outcome. "Everyone is concerned about it, but it's hard to know what the solution is," said Bill Donahue, the county's legal counsel.

1 man is dead after an early morning shooting in Danville

It happened in the 900 block of Campbell street just before 3:00 AM. Police say when they got there they found a 25 year old on the ground who had been shot.

Man killed in Danville was from Chicago

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said Gerald Taylor was pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana at 4:29 a.m. Saturday. Danville police were called to the 900 block of Campbell Lane shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday after someone reported that a person had been shot, according to Public Safety Director Larry Thomason.

Danville ReStore gets bigger building to make a bigger difference

Danville district's ex-food director faces seven felony charges

The former Danville schools food service director was arraigned Thursday on felony charges for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from the district. In Vermilion County Circuit Court, Gregory A. Lazzell, 51, of Danville waived formal reading of the charges: one count of theft of government property between $10,000 and $100,000, a Class 1 felony; one count of official misconduct, a Class 3 felony; and five counts of intimidation, also a Class 3 felony.

Danville house fire investigated as arson

Danville police say firefighters were dispatched to a house in the 100 block of Pine Street at about 8:30 p.m. for a report of smoke coming from the attic. After extinguishing the fire, investigators say they learned that the house was vacant, and that it did not have power or gas service.
