A deaf man has been paid $175,000 in taxpayer funds to settle claims Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers used excessive force during a 2014 traffic stop. Pearl Pearson, who also is mute, sued the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety in 2015 after suffering injuries to his head, face and upper body during the traffic stop.

Ken Ham will speak on UCO campus after all

Thursday, in his daily e-letter sent to university faculty and staff, University of Central Oklahoma President Don Betz said he has invited Ham to make his presentation on "Genesis and the State of the Culture" on campus on March 5, the date Ham was originally supposed to visit the campus before his invitation to speak there was rescinded. Betz said the university also will present a session on the First Amendment and free speech, as well as a session on the process of scientific inquiry and evolution.
