2018 Oscars: These Hollywood streets are closing for Dolby Theatre ceremony

The city of Los Angeles and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have finalized street-closure plans around Hollywood's Dolby Theatre for next month's Academy Awards, Oscars officials said today. Hollywood Boulevard will be closed between Highland Avenue and Orange Drive beginning at 10 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, and remain closed until 6 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7. Between Feb. 25 and the Oscars ceremony on Sunday, March 4, additional streets and sidewalks will be closed for varying periods.

The man shot to death in the parking lot of a San Bernardino park was convicted as a teen of playing a part in the slaying of a Highland girl nearly 16 years ago, San Bernardino police said. Luke Adam Miller, a 30-year-old transient, was fatally shot at Wildwood Park in the 2300 block of North Sepulveda Avenue on the evening of Feb. 8. Miller is the same person who at age 15 was sentenced to three years in the California Youth Authority for participating in the death of 16-year-old Christy McKendall on April 2, 2002, officials said Friday.

A Highland couple was charged Monday, Jan. 29, with child abuse after doctors discovered last week their 2-month son with multiple broken ribs, a skull fracture and several other injuries consistent with child abuse, according to court records and the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. Robert Martin Bellet III, 30, and Annelese Rose Ortega, 28, were arrested on suspicion of child cruelty involving injury or death and inflicting great bodily injury to a child under 5. Bellet was booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga and Ortega at the Central Detention Center in Rialto, according to jail records.
