1 dead, 1 injured in motorcycle collision with deer in Idaho

A California woman died and a North Dakota man was injured after their motorcycle collided with a deer in south-central Idaho near Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve. Idaho State Police say 29-year-old Alexandria J. Porterfield of Highland, California, died at the scene of the crash at about 11:30 p.m. Monday.

Four injured in 3-vehicle crash in Highland

A Nissan sedan and Honda Passport crashed shortly before 9 a.m. at the intersection of Pacific and Victoria avenues, sending the Nissan into a gas station marquee, according to a San Bernardino County sheriff's news release. There was a Sunday morning shooting after two men got into a fight when one of them was kept from taking his father to church because the other had blocked his apartment house's driveway with his car, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff's news release. Authorities are seeking Calvin Treadway, who sheriff's deputies said allegedly shot victim Jamie Hawkins in the throat after Hawkins punched Treadway to push him away during an argument about the closed-off driveway about 8:45 a.m. With Hawkins, 20, of San Bernardino wounded, Treadway and his father left in a gold Toyota Camry from the driveway of an apartment complex in the 7700 block of McKinley Street in Highland.

Two wildfires briefly threaten Running Springs communities

Two wildfires flared-up in the foothills above Highland posing a threat to the Running Springs communities on Saturday afternoon, July 22. The first wildland blaze, dubbed the Dollar Fire, was reported at 1:34 p.m. in tinder dry chaparral, about two miles south of Fredalba. A second blaze, dubbed the Seine Fire for its location near Seine Ave. and Piedmont Drive, roared to life a half-hour later in the hills behind the Wal-Mart Center in Highland, seven miles south of the first fire.
