Robocalls on the rise: Texans receive, place second most autodialer calls in the U.S.

Texans received well over 344 million robocalls in March, the second highest volume after the largest state by population in the country - California, according to recently released data. An estimated 3.15 billion robocalls were placed nationally last month, a new monthly record and 29 percent higher than last March YouMail, a California-based telecommunications company, compiles robocall data monthly.

Chase Bank entering Lubbock market

A building permit filed last week shows Chase Bank will occupy the former Starbuck's location at 801 University Ave. Suite A. A timeline for the project has yet to be announced. A request for comment from the institution was not returned as of Wednesday afternoon.

Lubbock mom tells police man claimed alleged child indecency 'was an accident'

A Lubbock County grand jury indicted a 25-year-old man on Tuesday after he was accused of inappropriately touching a 12-year-old girl in 2016. Eric Luevano-Soto is charged with a second-degree felony count of indecency with a child by sexual contact, which carries a punishment of two to 20 years in prison.

Dog park at Mackenzie Park opening Friday

The Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department will host a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday to celebrate the opening of the Canyon Run Dog Park in Mackenzie Park The ribbon cutting and opening will take place at 10 a.m. on Cesar E. Chavez Drive, west of Joyland Amusement Park. After the ceremony, the Canyon Run Dog Park will be open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., according to a news release from the city.

Signs on the doors of Campisi's Restaurant at 4414 82nd St. notified customers and employees that the Italian restaurant permanently closed Monday. The sign to employees said the business closure was effective immediately and that employees would be paid this week.

6 sentenced in Lubbock federal court for drug trafficking

A 29-year-old Lubbock man was sentenced on Friday to 30 years in federal prison for his role in organizing the trafficking of pounds of methamphetamine in Lubbock. U.S. Senior District Judge Sam Cummings sentenced Alejandro Garcia-Izazaga to 365-months in prison.

LFR still fighting 2-alarm fire at Villa Town Motel

First responders are on the scene of a two-alarm fire at the Villa Town Motel, 5401 Ave Q S Dr. LFR says they received an alarm at 5:01 p.m. Monday and called for a second alarm at 5:12 p.m. The first was in the restaurant, at the opposite end of the building, at 9:57 a.m. The Lubbock Fire Marshal has ruled that to be an incendiary fire and they are asking for public help to determine the cause.

Portions of 19th Street to be closed Tuesday for Overton water line replacement

Beginning Tuesday, April 17 the City of Lubbock with Deerwood Construction Inc. will begin construction of a water line in the alley between Avenue R and Avenue Q from 17th Street to 19th Street. During the duration of construction, the eastbound left turn lane of 19th Street will be closed, the southern westbound lane of 19th Street will be closed and alley access will be restricted.

New traffic signal installed at 49th and MLK

The City of Lubbock has completed the installation of a new emergency vehicle traffic signal at 49th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Tuesday morning, April, 17th, the traffic signal will begin operating.
