Contrary to an accuser's testimony, text messages and cellphone data, Michael Boland testified Thursday that he "never" coerced an underage girl to have sex with him or harbored three girls who had run away from foster care. "I want to be the hero, not the villain," Boland, 69, said was the reason he provided shelter, clothes and phones to a 17-year-old who said she lived with him and had sex with him from age 16. The jury will begin deliberating Friday on accusations Boland had sex with a minor, took three girls from their group home, bought liquor for a 14-year-old and fled the scene of an accident after hitting a woman with his car.

A month after Irma, Florida Hospital Oceanside still closed in Ormond Beach

A 19-year-old woman testified Tuesday that she was coerced when she was underage into an ongoing sexual relationship with a man in his 60s under threat to her home and livelihood. A convicted arsonist with a decades-long criminal record in Volusia County will be tried this week on six charges including sex with a minor. Worker injured after fall into tank at Ormond wastewater plant

ORMOND BEACH - A public works employee was hospitalized Wednesday after falling into a tank he was power-washing at the wastewater plant. Sometime around noon, the man fell into the empty concrete basin, described by city officials as "an equalization tank," and paramedics were called to the facility at 550 N. Orchard St. City Manager Joyce Shannahan said the employee's vital signs were good and he was "alert and conscious" as paramedics worked to hoist him out of the 12-foot tank.
