CA: Milpitas Residents Seek City's Help in Curbing Future Development

Oct. 19--Pines neighbors concerned about new housing development, increased traffic and a pending Bay Area Rapid Transit station that may hasten the deterioration of their once quiet South Milpitas neighborhood say they want to work constructively with the city to prevent that. Specifically, longtime residents Rose Riggs and Steve Roberts -- members of a new group they've formed called South Main Business Owners Association that advocates on behalf of 12 small businesses east of the Pines neighborhood -- say they would like to retain those small retailers along South Main Street, north of Montague Expressway.

Man accused in fatal South San Jose stabbing may have fled to Mexico

A San Jose man accused of stabbing and killing another man in the city's south side is on the loose, police said. The fatal stabbing happened at around 12:20 a.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of Branham Lane East, police said.

Saratoga: Four vehicles stolen in related cases between Oct. 5, 6

Four vehicles were stolen within hours of each other in Saratoga between the evening of Oct. 5 and the early morning hours of Oct. 6, and the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department confirmed that two of the incidents are related. A truck and an ATV were stolen from Garrod Farms on Garrod Road, and a car on Vanderbilt Drive and one on Paul Avenue were also taken during the spree, according to a sheriff's report for the week of Oct. 2. The report stated that all incidents occurred between 5 p.m. on Oct. 5 and 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 6. The Vanderbilt Drive vehicle was recovered in the Garrod Farms area.
