Benicia is located in central California in the San Francisco Bay Area. The city once served as the state capital for almost thirteen months in 1853. In 1847 the city was founded by Dr. Robert Semple, Thomas O. Larkin and Comandante General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo. Application deadline extended for women and girls commission

SOLANO COUNTY >>> The application deadline to serve on Solano County's new Commission for Women and Girls has been extended to July 31. Established by the Solano County Board of Supervisors in April, the 17-person commission - with 15 adults and two youth members - aims to provide community education and advisement to the supervisors and other entities in the county on issues relating to the changing social and economic conditions of women and girls.

Six pull papers on first day of candidacy period

The first day of the fall election period opened up on Monday with possibly the surprise of the year as local realtor Ryan Messano pulled candidacy papers for the Vallejo school board, according to the Solano County Registrar of Voters website. The self-proclaimed foe of pornography has been active in recent months, speaking out at school board and Vallejo City Council meetings about his perceived dangers of pornography on youth and society.

Benicia Police Department now provided dispatch services for Vallejoa s Cal Maritime

In a California first, last week the Benicia Police Department dispatchers began providing dispatch services to Vallejo's California State University Maritime Academy, officials of both agencies announced. Benicia Police Chief Erik Upson worked with Cal Maritime's Chief Donny Gordon to develop an agreement that would permit shared dispatch services, the announcement says.

Brad Kilger, who has spent the last two years of a 40-year public service career as the city manager for Martinez, said this week he will retire at the end of December. Airport Land-Use Commission meets Thursday

The Solano County Airport Land-Use Commission will conduct three public hearings to determine if secondary dwelling ordinances in Solano County and Benicia, as well as Benicia design review regulations are consistent with the Travis Air Force Base, Nut Tree Airport and the Rio Vista Airport land-use compatibility plans.
