SAFER grant would allow Ohio city to run 4 ambulances regularly

The $1.03M SAFER grant would allow the Canton Fire Department to hire 10 new responders and regularly operate four ambulances CANTON, Ohio - Ten new hires would allow the Canton Fire Department to regularly operate four ambulances, Chief Thomas Garra said Monday. He answered questions from Canton City Council members about plans for a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant during a council committee meeting.

Confusion remains over CBD oil sales

Several stores in Stark County continue to sell products with cannabidiol - a cannabis compound known as CBD - but at least one stopped after learning the state considers it illegal. An Ohio Board of Pharmacy guidance document in late August stated, "All marijuana products, including CBD oil, can only be dispensed in a licensed Medical Marijuana Control Program dispensary."

CANTON  Jurors talking about the case outside of the courtroom led Stark County Common Pleas Judge Frank Forchione to declare a mistrial Thursday in Angela Webb's trial. Webb is accused of shooting her husband, Anthony Webb, multiple times during a confrontation at their Bethlehem Township home on Jan. 19. She faces counts of attempted murder and felonious assault.

Mount Union soccer player dies after tree strikes car

An 18-year-old Canton woman was killed and her father injured Sunday when a tree fell and smashed their car as it traveled along Everhard Road NW. Kleptach and her father, Brian Kleptach, 48, were traveling in a 2017 Chevrolet Malibut around 4:15 p.m. Sunday when the car was struck by a falling tree in the 3700 block of Everhard Road NW.
