Cleveland was established in 1837. The city was named for Colonel Benjamin Cleveland, who was a commander at the Battle of Kings Mountain during the American Revolutionary War. The official association between the US federal government and the greater Cherokee Nation, the Cherokee Agency, was moved in 1819 to an area near present day Cleveland. This area would be a prominent factor during the Cherokee Removal of the late 1830s.

Hale sentenced to 25 years in death of man

A man accused in the murder of a Cleveland man has received a 25-year sentence.Sean Scott Hale, 27, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Friday in a Bradley County Criminal Court in connection with a Sean Scott Hale, 27, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Friday in a Bradley County Criminal Court in connection with the March 2017, death of Thomas Creek Jr., 34, whose body was found in a remote area of Cherokee National Forest in Polk County. According to a story previously published in the Cleveland Daily Banner, Hale had picked up Creek at Tennova-Cleveland, where the victim was being checked for an undisclosed ailment.

Wildwood residents skeptical about project
