A high school in Daly City is on lockdown this afternoon following reports of a person with a gun on campus, police said.

Parents get year in jail in shaken baby case

A couple from Daly City was sentenced to a year in county jail and five years of supervised release Wednesday after pleading no contest to felony child endangerment, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office. Neighbors said that Aisha Genera, 36, and Michael Guardado, 40, were arguing and shouting constantly in their one-room studio apartment in June and July of 2016.

In an effort to curb a growing number of financial scams targeting seniors and dependent adults in San Mateo County, a collaborative team of county officials has pooled their resources to detect instances of dependent adult abuse and coordinate a range of services to support them. A pair of court-appointed doctors found accused murderer Reynaldo Maldanado competent for trial but his defense attorney wants a jury to make the final decision on whether the former Daly City resident is able to aid in his own defense against allegations he helped ambush a teenage boy in 2001 with a friend who stabbed him repeated. Maldanado's competency has remained up in the air for months as the court and attorneys awaited word from the doctors.

The accused getaway driver in a January crowbar attack that nearly killed a 77-year-old Daly City woman is heading straight to trial after waiving a preliminary hearing on the evidence. Juan Carlos Cuellar, 37, next returns to court Oct. 28 to enter a plea in Superior Court and set a jury trial date.

A Daly City man accused of raping an intoxicated woman he met at a San Francisco karaoke bar and brought back to his mobile home pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of sexual assault. Mingchao Zou, 23, met the alleged 21-year-old victim with two friends at a karaoke bar Aug. 26. The woman consumed three or four beers and told police Zou drove her back to his Daly City mobile home where she passed out.

A town hall meeting will be held today in San Francisco to mobilize people to keep Seton Medical Center in Daly City open following its bankruptcy, organizers said. A 23-year-old woman who spent several months in a state mental hospital after her arrest for stabbing a taxi driver transporting her back home to Pacifica from a Daly City shopping center pleaded no contest to a variety of felonies yesterday including attempted murder. But based on two doctors' conclusions that Amanda Jenille Aldeguer was insane at the time, Judge Barbara Mallach ordered her committed to a state mental hospital rather than sentenced and incarcerated.
