Founded in 1827 Danville was made up of eighty donated acres. The city was named for Dan Beckwith who donated twenty of those acres. Ground broken on assisted-living facility in northern Danville

A crew was busy pushing dirt and leveling ground Wednesday at the site where construction will soon begin on a new $10 million senior living complex on Danville's northeast side. City officials joined representatives of the developer, Phillips Investments LLC, on Wednesday morning for a groundbreaking ceremony at the site at 2215 N. Bowman Ave., immediately north of Life Church, that will be the home of the Villas of Holly Brook Assisted Living and Reflections Memory Care community.

Danville middle school music volunteer arrested for allegedly sexually abusing minor

A longtime volunteer with the North Ridge Middle School music program is behind bars for allegedly sexually abusing a minor in 2011. Public Safety Director Larry Thomason said David J. Woodrow, 41, of Danville, was arrested on a preliminary charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse around 10:30 a.m. today.

Danville man convicted of bribing alleged sex-assault victim

A 37-year-old Danville man is facing between six and 30 years in prison for bribing a juvenile he allegedly sexually assaulted in January 2017. However, State's Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said Lewis is facing mandatory Class X sentencing due to his prior criminal history, which includes a 2005 armed robbery conviction, 2002 and 2000 forgery convictions and a 1996 robbery conviction, all in Cook County.

3 Danville men face charges after weekend chase ends in fiery crash

Three men have been charged in a weekend chase with Danville police that ended with the suspects crashing their vehicle into a pole and it catching fire. Three of the four men found in the vehicle were later arrested and charged with various weapons violations in Vermilion County Circuit Court on Monday.

Although a warrant has been issued for a suspect in the first double fatality - on June 16 outside the Untouchables Motorcycle Club - no arrest has been made in that case. Fundraiser to be held for vets with PTSD

A motorcycle benefit ride will start at noon, and music, food, and a silent auction will follow at the American Legion Post 210 at 6 p.m. Working Out PTSD pays for gym memberships for qualified veterans, and also helps raise money buy service dogs for vets. A veteran does not need to have been diagnosed with PTSD in order to apply and doesn't need to have seen combat.

Shooting in Danville leaves 2 dead

Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said police were called to a residence in the 1300 block of Lape Street at 4:15 a.m. "The caller reported that a male was lying on the floor and not breathing," Thomason said. "Entering the home, police found a male and a female lying on the floor in the residence and both appeared to be victims of gunshot wounds.

Danville Fire Department seeing exodus of young firefighters

This past spring, a 34-year-old Danville firefighter left for a job with a department in the Indianapolis area. That's become a trend in recent years, according to those still with the department who said there's been an exodus of younger members leaving for departments in other cities - or for other jobs entirely.

Danville man gets 90 years for sexually assaulting young girl he baby-sat

A 39-year-old Danville man will spend of the rest of his life behind bars for sexually assaulting a girl numerous times over a three-year period while serving as her baby-sitter. Vermilion County Circuit Judge Nancy Fahey on Monday sentenced Richard V. Ashley to three consecutive 30-year terms - one for each count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child for which he was convicted - for a total of 90 years.

Deal would give Danville police access to school radio, video feeds

Danville police and school officials are working this summer on an agreement that would allow police to access school radio communications and video feeds during an emergency. Dave Wesner, the city's corporation counsel, said the agreement would allow Danville police and other emergency personnel to hear radio communications by administrators and teachers during an emergency inside a school, such as a school shooting.
