Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said that a first-degree murder warrant was obtained Tuesday through the Vermilion County State Attorney's office for the arrest of Yuri D. Lillard, 34, of Danville.

Former Bresee Tower's new owners discuss plans for hotel-casino complex

With casino expansion legislation brewing in Springfield, the owners of the newly named Collins Tower are now considering working a casino into their plans to redevelop Danville's tallest building into a hotel. Chris and Jeri Collins are still set on turning the former Bresee Tower - a 13-story, century-old vacant office building in downtown Danville - into a 1920s-period hotel, but in the last three weeks, they and their investors have been tossing around the idea of incorporating a casino into their overall plan, which also includes redeveloping the former Vermilion County Courthouse Annex next door.

A Danville High School special-education teacher who'd been accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student has been fired. The school board on Wednesday voted unanimously to terminate the tenured teacher, whom board President Bill Dobbles identified as Chelsea L. Robinson after the recommendation was approved.

Bailey Academy principal appointed to fill vacant DACC board seat

At a special meeting on Monday, trustees approved appointing Tracy Cherry, principal of Kenneth D. Bailey Academy, to fill a vacancy that was created when Tonya Hill resigned on Aug. 10. Hill, of Catlin, stepped down when she became a finalist for executive director of the DACC Foundation. She was hired for the post at the end of August and began on Monday.

Project Success gets $4.2 million in grants for after-school programs

Project Success of Vermilion County celebrated its 20th anniversary recently by announcing two competitive grants, totaling $4.2 million, that allow it to continue providing after-school programming at two schools and expand to several more. Executive Director Rickey Williams Jr. said the nonprofit organization will receive $450,000 a year over the next five years to run the 21st Century Community Learning Center program at Judith Giacoma Elementary in Westville and Pinecrest Elementary and reinstate the program at Mary Miller Junior High School in Georgetown.

Two weeks after a Danville man was found shot dead in a vehicle, the Vermilion County Coroner has released his identity. Coroner Jane McFadden said the victim is 43-year-old Shawn David Mullins.
