Founded in 1827 Danville was made up of eighty donated acres. The city was named for Dan Beckwith who donated twenty of those acres. It became a large coal mining area in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Today the city has seventeen parks including a full dog park called FETCH, and the Danville Village Mall. Wooded area gifted to Danville likely to stay that way in near future

City officials don't yet have specific plans for 180 acres of wooded property south of the Chateau Estates subdivision that's being donated to the city by a couple with local connections, but they're thinking any uses should be recreational. The city's Corporate Counsel David Wesner said the property, owned by Bob and Gaynell Wright, who live in Louisiana, will continue in the near future as is - wooded, undeveloped land.

Talks on filling Danville mayor vacancy to be behind closed doors

On Tuesday night, Danville aldermen will hash out behind closed doors who will fill the remainder of Mayor Scott Eisenhauer's term. Four aldermen have expressed interest in the appointment to the mayor's office, which would begin Nov. 5, when Eisenhauer begins his new job in Rantoul as village administrator.

Flex-N-Gate seeks $80K grant for Danville plant expansion

In addition to $1.2 million in state tax incentives, local auto parts maker Flex-N-Gate is seeking another $80,000 from the city to buy equipment that will be used in the expansion of its Danville plant. The $20 million project will add at least 100 jobs at the facility at 3403 Lynch Road, nearly doubling the current workforce of 118 and the facility, which will be expanded by 60,000 square feet.

Danville man accused of dragging woman into car at Rantoul gas station

Police arrested a 36-year-old Danville man after he allegedly dragged a woman into his vehicle against her will at a Rantoul gas station late Thursday and sped off. Ronald K. Poke was arrested on charges of aggravated stalking, unlawful restraint and domestic battery.

Rantoul OKs Eisenhauer deal

The village board Tuesday night voted to accept Mayor Chuck Smith's choice of Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer as Rantoul's next village administrator. Eisenhauer will start his duties in less than a month.

Woman gets 60 years for fatal parking lot shooting

Nearly 1 years after she gunned down a man in a grocery store parking lot, following a minor accident with two of her children, Lakeisha M. Cunningham stood in a courtroom and apologized for her actions. "I'm deeply sorry for what happened," the Danville woman said Tuesday afternoon, as she stood before Vermilion County Circuit Judge Nancy Fahey in an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs, her Chicago lawyer Justin Schwartz beside her.

Opening for Danville mayor job draws crowd

At least four aldermen have already expressed interest in being Danville's interim mayor, setting the stage for what could become a contentious process to choose Scott Eisenhauer's successor. "Because you are getting into personalities and stuff," said Alderman Steve Foster, who'd only be interested in the temp job if his fellow council members can't reach a consensus on the other three aldermen who want to run the city until a new mayor is elected next spring.

Eisenhauer: 'My interest is to finish my career in Rantoul'

Eisenhauer would begin his duties Nov. 5. Current Village Administrator Rick Snider, who announced he would be stepping down, has agreed to stay on through the end of October. Smith said the village is "glad to have the opportunity to welcome Mr. Eisenhauer to our staff and look forward to building a long and rewarding relationship with him."

OSF to purchase Danville Polyclinic

The move will broaden OSF's presence in Danville beyond OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, the former Presence Health hospital OSF acquired along with the now-renamed OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center in Urbana earlier this year. The long-running fall event Haunted Happenings is moving to Harrison Park Golf Course from its original venue at Kennekuk County Park. The city of Danville announced Tuesday that it's joining with the Vermilion County Conservation District to co-host this year's event, set for Oct. 27 at the golf course, 1300 W. Voorhees St. The event, which the conservation district launched in 1996, has always been organized and hosted by district employees along with volunteers at the Bunker Hill Historic Area at Kennekuk.

Danville groups for, against city-manager change set competing meetings

Coinciding with the first day of early voting in Danville, community members for and against a proposal to change to a city-manager form of government are holding public meetings.
