October 21 - The City of Decatur will host an Illinois Department of Human Rights informational program for tenants and landlords on Tuesday. Residents are invited to join housing experts for a free workshop covering a variety of topics property owners and renters face.

Tenn. man pleads not guilty to Decatur murder

Cameron Taylor, 20, of Arlington, Tenn., faces three first degree murder charges for the shooting death of Nathaniel "Nate" Majors on Jan. 27. A member of Majors' family found him unconscious at a home on North Graceland and took him to a Decatur hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to investigators. An autopsy revealed multiple injuries consistent with gunshot wounds which damaged Majors' heart.

DECATUR, Ill. A second murder trial for a person involved in beating a man to death ended in a guilty verdict.

The third annual event brought representatives of more than a dozen firms to Richland Community College for an expo with students. "The point is to expose these kids, who may or may not have ever understood what happens in their community, to manufacturing," explained Andrew Taylor, Economic Development Officer for the Economic Development Corporation for Decatur and Macon County.

October 16 - The portion of Lost Bridge Road spanning Lake Decatur will be closed on Thursday for mowing, weather permitting. The City of Decatur announced crews will be mowing along the shoulders of Lost Bridge between Lake Front Road and Oak Ridge Drive from 9 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m. The recommended detour consists of using Lake Shore Drive, 22nd Street, Wood Street, U.S. 36 and Country Club Road.

Man given probation for attack and robbery of deaf victim

A man who pleaded guilty to taking part in the robbery and beating of a deaf person has been sentenced to probation.

October 14 - Ed Bacon says he "couldn't be happier" after taking on his newest role as the Executive Director of the Northeast Community Fund. City May Hire Firm to Develop Water Supply Plan

October 14 - The Decatur City Council will be asked to approve a contract with an Indiana-based firm to devise a plan for an additional water supply during Monday's regular meeting. Following droughts in 2011 and 2012, the Illinois State Water Survey recommended the city water supply be able to withstand 10 months of drought conditions.

Police were called to Ken's A-Frame at the 1300 block of East Eldorado Street just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday night. Two victims, a 33-year-old female and a 39-year-old man, were smoking outside of the back door.

Accused bank robber dies after choking on peanut butter in jail

Macon County Coroner Michael Day said James Carr died after suffering a brain injury and respiratory failure from choking on a glob of peanut butter. 56-year-old Carr of Yukon, Oklahoma was pronounced dead around 2 p.m. Oct. 3 in the hospital's intensive care unit after being found in his cell at 8 a.m. on Sept.

October 12 - Darlene Senger, the Republican nominee for Comptroller, criticized incumbent Democrat Susana Mendoza for refusing to rule out a run for mayor of Chicago during an appearance in Decatur on Thursday.
