Travis personnel from 349th kick coat drive into high gear

Reserve airmen and civilians from the 349th Air Mobility Wing have joined the city of Fairfield in supporting the annual Coats for Kids drive, which helps keep local children warm all year. Anyone who would like to donate a new or gently used coat to the drive can drop them off at any Fairfield fire station through Dec. 21. After that date, the fire stations will continue to take coat donations for those in need.

LAFCO to address Flyway Center reports; RD 2034 dissolvement

The final municipal services review and the sphere of influence report for the proposed Pacific Flyway Center will be considered by the Solano LAFCO commissioners when they meet Monday. The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. in the Board of Supervisors chamber on the first floor of the government center, 675 Texas St., in Fairfield.

Solano 4-H schedules Fairfield open house

Federal grand jury indicts San Jose man in Fairfield weapons case

A federal grand jury in Sacramento returned a one-count indictment Thursday against Brandon Edward Nichols, 27, of San Jose, charging him with possessing a firearm as a felon, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced in a press release. Nichols' car was stopped Dec. 12, 2017, for a suspected Vehicle Code violation, according to court documents.

Judge orders Fairfield woman to stand trial stemming from pursuit

A Fairfield woman accused of crashing a stolen car during a police pursuit was ordered Friday to stand trial on three felony and three misdemeanor charges. Police testimony at the probable cause hearing for Shannon L. DaSilva, 37, included a description of police finding marijuana in one of her bra cups and methamphetamine in her other bra cup when she was searched after being arrested.

Legal proceedings advance for several cases

A Solano County Superior Court judge scheduled a jury trial for a Solano Community College instructor who is accused of making a criminal threat and brandishing a replica gun, both misdemeanors. Thomas Dobbins Bundenthal, 55, who was arraigned on the charges July 18, appeared Thursday for a trial calling in Department 1. The judge ordered the defendant to return to the courtroom at 9:30 a.m. Monday for a jury trial.

Pair's sentencing delayed again in gunshot slaying of Vaca man

For the second time in three months, judgment and sentencing has been delayed for two men charged with murder related to a Fairfield shooting last year that left a Vacaville man dead. Shackled at the waist and wearing striped jail clothing, Christopher V. Johnson, in his early 20s, and Jesus Gutierrez Jr., 20, appeared Thursday morning in Solano County Superior Court Judge William J. Pendergast's courtroom, where they found out that they would return at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 14 to learn how much state prison time they will serve.

Jury rules Faifield man competent; firebombings trial to resume

A trial for a Fairfield man accused of a trio of 2017 firebombings ended Wednesday with a jury ruling Matthew S. Jones, 40, is mentally competent so his case can resume being prosecuted. Jones' case had been on hold for months with his lawyer repeatedly stating Jones was mentally incompetent and therefore unable to assist in his defense.

Judge sentences Fairfield man to year in jail for sex crime

A Fairfield man who sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl at his Tokay Court home in 2016 was sentenced Wednesday to one year of jail time. A jury trial for Gerardo G. Maciel, 48, ended in August with his being found guilty of a committing a lewd act on a child under the age of 14. One girl testified during the trial that she had been repeatedly sexually molested by Maciel, as many as two dozen times, over the course of two years starting when she was 9 years old.

NorthBay Healthcare CFO dies

The vice president and chief finance officer for NorthBay Healthcare died Monday, the health care organization announced Tuesday in a press release. Art DeNio had been with NorthBay Healthcare since 2001 and is credited with helping establish Fairfield-based organization as a regional leader in health care, according to the release.

After a preliminary hearing Tuesday, a judge orders Felipe J. Rios-Angulo, 30, back to court Dec. 18 for a held-to-answer arraignment After a preliminary hearing, a Solano County Superior Court judge on Tuesday ruled there was enough evidence to set a held-to-answer arraignment for a Fairfield man charged with sex assaults on a child. Judge Carlos R. Gutierrez ordered Felipe J. Rios-Angulo to return to Department 9 at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 18, when the defendant will enter a plea on one count of continued sexual abuse of a child under 14 and six counts of lewd acts with a child 14 or 15 years old.

Frazier seeks to name portion of Vacaville freeway for late CHP officer
