The Fairfield field office of the Department of Motor Vehicles will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays beginning Aug. 4. It has been offering limited Saturday service since early this summer. It's one of 43 field offices open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. the first and third Saturday of the month.

A 50-year-old Solano Community College student who was arrested in March on suspicion of making bomb threats that closed the school's three campuses will face a preliminary hearing next month. Lavirrise Monique Bynes of Vallejo, who, on Friday, appeared with her private attorney in Solano County Superior Court, will return at 10 a.m. Aug. 14 for the hearing in Judge Carlos Gutierrez's courtroom in Fairfield.

Vallejo ex-con enters plea on felony charges

A Vallejo ex-con whose impatience with staff outside the main jail in Fairfield authorities suspect prompted him to open fire on the jail's heavy metal roll-up door near the inmate booking area pleaded not guilty Monday to four felony charges. Dominic D. Colbert, 26, is accused of firing eight gunshots at the jail's door at around 2 a.m. on the morning of June 27 after drinking and being told his brother was not going to be promptly released in spite of Colbert getting his bail bond earlier in the night.

Fairfield man sentenced to federal prison for drug, firearms charges
