Franklin is located about twenty miles south of downtown Nashville, Tennessee in Williamson County. Founded in 1799 by Abraham Maury, Jr., the city was named after Benjamin Franklin. Franklin was a close friend of Dr. Hugh Williamson, for whom Williamson County was named. For 180 years of Franklin's existence, the town was one of the wealthiest towns in Tennessee. Pet survives Franklin apartment fire as single sprinkler extinguishes flames

A kitchen fire in an apartment Sunday night was extinguished by a single automatic fire sprinkler, allowing the tenant's cat to survive and preventing any injuries to others in the apartment building. The tenant returned home after her neighbors notified her of the fire, according to a news release from the Franklin Fire Department.

Race for governor draws voters to the polls on first day of early voting

Approximately 802 voters cast a ballot as of press time on the first day of early voting in the state primary and county general election, with the offices of governor, state House and Senate, U.S. House and Senate, and the local offices of mayor and county commissioner to name a few on the ballot. According to a few voters exiting the polls, the governor's race and U.S. Senate race initially drew them to the polls.

The Franklin Tomato Festival offers summer's best

The Franklin Farmers Market will host its eighth annual Tomato Festival on Saturday, July 14, beginning at 8 a.m. Farmers will vie for the best tasting tomato in the popular taste test judged by customers, and children will have many free activities for fun and entertainment. Customers will be in for a real treat with free tomato tasting from local farmers.

This will be the 44th year for this Grassland community event, considered the biggest backyard party with its menu of all-you-can-eat catfish, hushpuppies, sliced tomatoes, white beans and cole slaw made from a secret church recipe. There will also be live music and a children's play area, as well as a mouthwatering bake sale.
