Prosecutor seeking more information on student allegedly slapped

The Kent County Prosecutor's Office is requesting additional information from Grand Rapids police about an 11-year-old who was allegedly slapped by a Grand Rapid school's security officer, according to police. The investigation is focused on the assault accusation after the initial report to police came as a "trouble with a person" at the middle school.

Grand Rapids opening rental assistance program waiting list

The Grand Rapids Housing Commission will open the waiting list for its Section 8 housing voucher program on Nov. 5. Residents will have between then and Nov. 19 to sign up for a spot on the waiting list for the program, which provides rental assistance for low-income individuals and families. Carlos Sanchez, the commission's executive director, said once all the applications are in, the commission will conduct a lottery to place up to 5,000 of the applicants on the waiting list.
