Politics | Palatine library district seeks tax increase for building...

Palatine Public Library District voters will be asked to approve a property tax increase that would generate extra annual income for building upgrades and other needs. Library board members this week approved placing a referendum question on the April 2 ballot seeking permission to boost the annual property tax levy 29 percent, from 27 cents per $100 of assessed valuation to 35 cents.

District 54 names 3 new principals, literacy director

Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54's school board Thursday appointed new principals for Fairview and Nerge elementary schools and MacArthur International Spanish Academy as well as a new director of literacy for the 2019-20 school year. Megan Ankrom will be the principal at Fairview in Hoffman Estates after Judy Gurga retires next June.

Ex-CEO of Hoffman Estates company imprisoned for pocketing $2.2 million in investments

The former CEO of a Hoffman Estates pharmaceutical company was sentenced Wednesday to four years in prison for pocketing $2.2 million from investors to spend on his Michigan property, golf and yacht club dues and fund his own futures trading account, authorities say. A federal judge sentenced Robert Tomlinson, the former CEO of Neurendo Pharma, to prison after he pleaded guilty this year to wire fraud, according to a U.S. attorney's office news release .

Taxing bodies back incentives for AT&T redevelopment in Hoffman Estates

Barrington Unit School District 220 proved the only dissenter Wednesday among the taxing bodies that will be affected by proposed economic incentives for the massive redevelopment of the former AT&T campus in Hoffman Estates. The local governments voted 6-1 to support a tax increment financing district covering the 150-acre onetime corporate campus, which a New Jersey-based developer wants to replace with new homes, offices, retail space and restaurants.

Al Larson won't seek re-election as Schaumburg mayor
