Jackson Airport Receives Federal Funding

The Jackson County Airport will be able to complete their airport apron project years ahead of schedule, as soon as 2020-2021 in fact. Steve Shotwell, Chairman of the Jackson County Board of Commissioners , said, "Mr. Zapata applied and got some paperwork aligned and we're looking at getting a three million dollar apron project done at the airport."

CSL Plasma Opens Center in Jackson

A new business opened Friday on W. Prospect Street next to the Family Dollar. The CSL Plasma Donation Center opened it's doors with 18 beds and expects to expand to as many as 60. CSL Plasma purchased the building at 103 W. Prospect in May of last year for $1.67 million.

Registration for Zombie Walk Jackson Revival begins at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Commonwealth Commerce Center, 209 E. Washington Ave. The event is presented by Awaken Haunted Attraction. This is the 10th year of the walk, but it didn't take place in 2017 when it became too much for the previous organizers, said Brandy Chase, Zombie Walk Jackson Revived organizer.

Medical, recreational marijuana businesses could get green light from Jackson

Even if Michigan voters don't legalize recreational marijuana in the Nov. 6 election, the city of Jackson could be seeing marijuana businesses inside its borders. The prospect of prohibiting recreational marijuana facilities was on the council's Tuesday, Oct. 9 agenda, but the vote was postponed and the council instead directed the city attorney to put together an ordinance to regulate medical marijuana facilities in the city.

New Disc Golf Course Unveiled Today

In a press release, the City of Jackson unveiled its new disc golf course. Located in the southwest section of Ella Sharp Park along W. Hickory Avenue, the 18-hole course will take players through a scenic area of rolling hills, grassy openings, and large shade trees.

The City of Jackson is continuing efforts to repair pothole plagued streets in neighborhoods. In a press release, the city said that starting Monday Oct. 8, crews will begin a major resurfacing project in a neighborhood on Jackson's west side.

Cemetery tour gives guests 'a walk through Jackson's past'

Guests have four opportunities to enjoy "A Walk Through Jackson's Past: A Guide Through Mount Evergreen Cemetery." In a press release, the City of Jackson announced that a busy roadway in a neighborhood on Jackson's southwest side is closed for water main replacement and pavement resurfacing. West Avenue between Bloomfield Boulevard and Crescent Road was closed to through traffic the morning of Monday Oct. 1. Crews will begin work on Tuesday Oct. 2 to replace the water main underneath West Avenue.

Nikki Joly Arrested, Charged With Arson

Former Citizen of the Year Nikki Joly, one of the leading voices in the march to passage of the city's Non-Discrimination Ordinance was arrested Monday on charges of arson stemming from a fire in his home on Pringle Street that killed the family pets, and injured a firefighter on August 10, 2017. Joly, 53, has a probable cause conference set for October 5, and a probable cause hearing on October 11. His bond was set at $25,000.
