Avalos jury transcript unsealed

The grand jury transcript was unsealed Monday in the case of a Lancaster woman and her boyfriend, who are accused of torturing and murdering her 10-year-old son. Heather Maxine Barron, 29, and Kareem Ernesto Leiva, 32, have pleaded not guilty to charges that they killed Anthony Avalos and tortured him in the days leading up to his June 21 death.

New pot facility coming to city

A state-of-the-art 31,705 square-foot medical cannabis cultivation and manufacturing research center is targeted for a 2.5-acre vacant lot on the southeast corner of Seventh Street East and Avenue L-8. The city's Planning Commission voted 5-0, with commissioners Diana Cook and Rutger Parris absent, at the Nov. 26 meeting to approve the project's conditional use permit.

Moderate rainfall coming to Southern California, heavier rain off coast

A storm that originated in the central Pacific headed toward Southern California Tuesday and will bring average to moderate rainfall, likely from Tuesday night until early Friday, according to National Weather Service meteorologists.
