Police say bone found during search for Zoe Campos

Lubbock police on Tuesday confirmed a bone discovered last week in a South Lubbock back yard was found as police acted on a lead in the case of missing Lubbock woman Zoe Campos. On Friday, police announced investigators searching the back yard of a home in the 1900 block of 70th Street found a bone on Nov. 7. On Tuesday, they said they were led to that area after a lead regarding the disappearance of Campos, who disappeared almost five years ago on Nov. 18, 2013.

Junior League of Lubbock presents awards to nonprofits Posted at

The Junior League of Lubbock has announced awards totaling $10,000 to Lubbock-area organizations through its community assistance grant program. Kathy Oaks, community impact vice president of Junior League, said in an announcement, "The success of our fundraising events, including Holiday Happening, Partner Card and Touch-A-Truck, allows us to distribute funds back into our community through community assistance grants."

Lubbock man awaits sentencing in 2017 box cutter assault on ex-girlfriend

A 39-year-old man faces up to 20 years in prison after jurors found him guilty of a 2017 attack during which he strangled his 33-year-old ex-girlfriend to unconsciousness, beat her and mutilated her left eye with a box cutter. Jurors in the 137th District Court deliberated for about an hour and 45 minutes before returning with their verdict on Nov. 8, finding Jesus Bocanegra guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury and a second count of domestic assault by strangling.

A group of 12 young women from the South Plains will join nearly 700 others from 9 a.m. to noon during the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City on Thanksgiving Day. Veterans and support groups launched a project at 11 a.m. Sunday to build a Regional Monument of Courage Monument that will recognize the loss suffered by Lone Star families, service men and women wounded in war, and this region's Medal of Honor recipients. The ceremonial turning of the first spade of earth was performed by veterans, community members who support their service, and Gold Star Families at the Lubbock Area Veterans War Memorial, located in Huneke Park at 82nd street and Nashville Avenue.

Loved ones of Treston Johnson of Lubbock honored his memory Sunday afternoon at Joyland Amusement Park with a balloon release after his death in what police are calling an accident Tuesday in Canyon. 3 hospitalized after crash near I-27, Loop 289

Three men were hospitalized after a single-vehicle rollover at 320 N. Loop 289, close to Pharr RV, but their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening at this time. The initial call for emergency officials to respond came in just before 5:30 a.m. The Lubbock Police Department, Lubbock Fire Department and EMS were at the scene of the crash.
