Committee to give recommendations on rec centers

A steering committee for the city's proposed indoor recreation centers is on its way to presenting its recommendations for a commission vote on Jan. 22. City commissioners received information about floor plans and placement of the centers at Anthony and Eisenhower middle schools during a work session Wednesday. Riley County Police Dispatch received a report on Thursday, Nov. 8 around 8:30 a.m. about a baby not breathing in the eastern part of Manhattan. The baby was taken to Via Christi Hospital, then life-flighted to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City where he died.

One person hospitalized following rural Riley County crash

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 21-year-old Hailey Weaver of Kings Beach, California was traveling northbound on US 77 near mile marker 187 between Manhattan and Randolph when for an unknown reason, her passenger car went off the roadway and struck a culvert. The vehicle then vaulted over the culvert, rolled and came to rest in the east ditch.
