Long in search of ways to draw in more people, authorities in Mobile are considering a plan to make air travel more attractive by swapping the city's two airports. A plan under consideration would send commercial passenger traffic - which currently lands west of the city at Mobile Regional Airport - to Mobile Downtown Airport at Brookley Field.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions may have pointed to the Bible to defend the separation of children from their parents at the border - but now more than 600 members of his own denomination, the United Methodist Church, have slapped him with a formal complaint because of it. In a letter dated June 18, hundreds of Methodists all over the United States charged Sessions with child abuse, immorality, racial discrimination and "dissemination of doctrines contrary to the standards of the United Methodist Church."

Alabama balks at funding for restored coastal Amtrak service

Alabama is balking at pledging money to help restart passenger train service along the northern Gulf Coast for the first time since Hurricane Katrina. Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi have to commit almost $35 million total over three years by Thursday to be eligible for the same amount in federal funds that would let Amtrak trains run from New Orleans eastward to Mobile, Alabama.

MDP asks for public's help locating Memorial Day shooting suspect

The Mobile Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating 21-year-old Kelvin Phillip Brown, who they say shot a man in the chest during a robbery on Memorial Day. On Monday, May 28, around 6 p.m., police responded to the 2000 block of Andrews Street after it was reported a 24-year-old man was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Church charges brought against Sessions

More than 600 United Methodist clergy and laity say they are bringing church law charges against U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, a fellow United Methodist, over a zero tolerance U.S. immigration policy - a policy that includes separating children from parents apprehended for crossing into the U.S. illegally. However, an authority on church history and polity said he's unaware of a complaint against a lay person ever moving past the district level.

A Mobile man who rented items from a Decatur business is facing charges after attempting to sell the items online, according to Decatur police. Police said Christopher Wayne Barber, 30, 1619 Jasper Road, Mobile, was arrested Saturday on unrelated charges by the Hartselle Police Department.

Police said the mother of the child reported the girl missing after an incident at the Burlington store at Springdale Mall in Mobile. The mother told police she was shopping at the store with 35-year-old John Betancourt, a stranger she had picked up on the I-65 Service Road earlier in the day.
