A community activist claimed the National City Police Chief was smiling at a City Council meeting as she championed for justice for a man killed in police custody last month, and went on a profanity-laced tirade that landed her in jail.

EEOC Sues Tapioca Express for Sexual Harrasment and Constructive Discharge

Tapioca Express, a South El Monte, Calif.-based milk tea franchise, and two of its franchisees violated federal law by subjecting female employees to sexual harassment and forcing some to quit because of the abuse, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced today. According to the EEOC, the owner of two Tapioca Express franchisees in Chula Vista and National City, Calif., harassed female employees by inappropriately touching them and making repeated comments of a sexual nature.

Bathroom videographer goes to jail

A National City man was sentenced June 7 to 150 days in jail for videotaping women in the restroom at a Walmart store in Kearny Mesa. Richard Lawrence Shaw Jr., 52, was remanded to jail immediately after San Diego Superior Court Judge Cindy Davis placed him on terms of three years probation.

EEOC files sex-harassment suit against Tapioca Express

Allegations of sexual harassment on the part of the owner of Tapioca Express outlets in Chula Vista and National City has prompted the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to file suit against the Asian- themed fast-food chain, the federal agency announced Wednesday. According to the commission, the proprietor of the two San Diego-area shops repeatedly wrapped his arms around female employees, pressed up against them and made inappropriate comments about their bodies.

Use of drug that reverses overdoses to expand to police, school campuses

Paramedic Scott Robinson of the National City Fire Department trains police officers on how to administer naloxone, a drug used to counter the effects of opioid overdoses. Police departments across the county plan to supply naloxone to their officers.

Police Friday morning in National City said a roadway near Kimball Park could be closed until mid-afternoon following an overnight crash that ignited a raging, gas-fueled fire outside a city fire station. According to reports, the crash a little after midnight allegedly involved a teenage driver who fled from a police traffic stop in her family's SUV.
