Tribe's funds to OK casinos in Arkansas put at $1.4M

Arkansas takes control of Pine Bluff Schools

The Arkansas Board of Education has unanimously voted for the state to take control of the Pine Bluff School District after declaring it fiscally distressed and unlikely to have enough money to operate by the end of the school year. According to the Pine Bluff Commercial, the state board removed the interim superintendent of the school district, Monica McMurray, on Thursday and dissolved the district's school board.

The Arkansas Board of Education took two votes Thursday. The first vote designated the Pine Bluff district as being in fiscal distress, a label that immediately bars the district from spending money without prior state agency approval and put the district in jeopardy of state takeover.

Two teens accused of kidnapping and strangling a Faulkner County woman in early July pleaded not guilty Tuesday to capital murder and other felony charges regarding the Wooster woman's disappearance.
