The San Leandro man who was injured on Interstate Highway 980 on Friday in a shooting that killed the dog he was traveling with said Sunday that the incident was a "total mystery." The shooting was reported at 7:34 p.m. Friday near the eastbound freeway's intersection with Interstate 580.

San Leandro gets state funds to remove abandoned boats

The city is getting $170,000 in state money to clear abandoned boats from the San Leandro Marina, a problem expected to get worse as the marina site is transformed into an aquatic park and housing, offices and restaurants. Fugitive inmate who escaped from conservation camp captured in San Leandro

A man who walked away from a correctional-center camp in Nevada County earlier this week has been arrested, authorities said. Justin Tyquiengco was apprehended at a gas station about 12:15 p.m. Thursday without incident by agents with the State Department of Corrections' special-service unit and fugitive-apprehensions team, according to a statement from the agency.
