Schaumburg wrestles with parking problem as entertainment district pushes ahead

Turning the encircled "Embrace" area in front of Schaumburg's Renaissance Hotel from purely decorative to an outdoor visitors plaza with seating is among the ideas for the development of an entertainment district in the area. Schaumburg officials have purchased both the one-story office buildings of the Woodfield Green Executive Center and the site previously occupied by Ron Santo's American Rotisserie north of the village's convention center and Renaissance Hotel for a new entertainment district and to reconfigure Thoreau Drive.

Public Invited to Schaumburg's Public Safety Open House on Oct. 6

The Village of Schaumburg invites the public to attend its Annual Public Safety Open House that will feature interactive demonstrations and exhibits from the Schaumburg Fire and Police Departments. A Palatine cabdriver who sexually abused a female passenger he picked up outside a Palatine nightspot in 2016 was sentenced to six years in prison. Muhammad Mahmood, 41, pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse in exchange for the sentence, which also requires him to register as a sex offender and pay $399 in fines, according to court records.

A Schaumburg woman who tried to run down her former husband with her car two years ago was sentenced to six years in prison. Cook County Judge Joel Greenblatt rejected the defense's argument that Anna DeRose, 46, was legally insane on April 21, 2016, when she chased the victim through backyards and in between houses in the Roselle neighborhood where he and their children live.

Sheila Aleluya, 45, of Hoffman Estates, was also ordered to serve 166 days in Cook County jail, perform 100 hours of community service and pay $1,649 in fines according to court records.
