An Illinois man accused of harassing a woman for wearing a Puerto Rican flag shirt at a Chicago-area park was charged Thursday with state hate crimes, authorities said. Prosecutors filed the two Class 3 felony hate crime charges against Timothy G. Trybus, Cook County state's attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said.

Chicago-area Head Start programs getting $3 million

Programs that help babies and young children and their low-income families in suburban Chicago are getting nearly $3 million. U.S. Sens. Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin say in a news release the money will help families gain access to Head Start and Early Head Start programs through the Evanston/Skokie Community Consolidated School District 35. 2 from Chicago charged with armed robbery of pizza delivery driver in Skokie

A man and woman from Chicago are facing drug and armed robbery charges after being accused of robbing a Skokie pizza delivery driver at gunpoint earlier this month, according to a Skokie Police Department news release Monday. Preston D. Walker, 27, of the 4900 block of North Kenmore Avenue in Chicago, and Bianca M. Sadler, 26, of the 4300 block of North Greenview Avenue in Chicago, are each charged with felony armed robbery and felony manufacturing and delivery of cocaine after police said they held up a pizza delivery driver for Village Inn restaurant on June 17. As of Thursday, Sadler was being held without bail in Cook County Jail, according to information on the Cook County sheriff's website.

Evanston man arrested during Uber ride faces gun charges, wanted for Skokie home invasion

An Evanston man wanted for breaking into a Skokie home was arrested in Evanston Wednesday after detectives spotted him getting into what turned out to be an Uber - that was eventually pulled over for a traffic violation, according to an Evanston Police Department news release. Around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, tactical detectives were near the 2100 block of Wesley when they saw the man, now identified as 19-year-old Jeilin Harris-Thomas, according to the release.
