Portion of Truckee River Bike Path to Close for Construction Project

The entire section of the path behind Pick-n-Pull from east of Larkin Circle to the foot bridge will be closed as crews remove and replace aging asphalt. The City of Sparks will temporarily close a section of the Truckee River Bike Path east of the Old North Truckee Drain outlet foot bridge to make improvements.

Authorities Seek Area Car Burglary, Check Fraud Suspects

Authorities say since May 2018 three different women have cashed the stolen checks using the stolen identification at Carson City banks. The Carson City Sheriff's Office along with the Reno Police Department, Sparks Police Department and the Washoe County Sheriff's Office need your help finding some burglary and check fraud suspects.  Vehicle burglaries have occurred in Reno, Sparks and Washoe County jurisdictions. Checks, credit cards and identifications were stolen during these burglaries.

Washoe County approves lease for new Sparks homeless campus

The Washoe County Commission has approved a 10-year lease between the state and the county's Human Services Agency to renovate nearly a dozen buildings on Nevada's mental health campus in Sparks to provide shelter for 150 homeless women and children. The lease approved Tuesday by the commission must still be approved by the Nevada Board of Examiners, which is scheduled to consider it Nov. 13. Backers include Gov. Brian Sandoval, the board chairman.

NDOT Conducts Study on I-80 East of Sparks

Traffic is increasing between Sparks and USA Parkway, partly because of the influx of jobs in the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center. NDOT says about 29,000 cars traveled on the 13-mile stretch of road, each day, in 2009.

New DMV center to open in south Reno in 2020

The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles, in partnership with the Nevada Department of Administration, celebrated the ground breaking for the new Northern Nevada DMV Services Center Wednesday, September 26. The site for the new facility will be located near the corners of Sandhill Road and Double Diamond Parkway, off the South Meadows exit. The new building, once opened, will replace the two existing DMV offices currently in Reno; the main office on Galletti Way and a Commercial Driver's License location on Greg Street.

2 suspects arrested in theft of Reno charity donations

Washoe County sheriff's deputies have arrested two suspects in the theft of approximately $400 in donations intended for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. The sheriff's office said Tuesday 23-year-old Tia Cryer and 25-year-old John Gilman were arrested early Monday morning at a residence in Sparks.

Medical Device Company New Deantronics Is Building A $40 Million Facility In Sparks

"200,000 thousand square feet plus, 200 high paying jobs, they're going to work in partnership with our universities - it doesn't get any better than this," beams the governor. New Deantronics, an international medical device company, is scheduled to be up and running by 2020.  Their 14-acre technology campus will soon break ground in Spanish Springs.

2 teenagers severely wounded in Sparks shooting

Police say two teenagers were being treated for life-threatening wounds after reports of pre-dawn gunfire in the city of Sparks near Reno. Sparks Police said Saturday that gunfire was reported at about 2 a.m. during an altercation in a parking lot and that two youths, ages 18 and 17, arrived a short time later at a local hospital with life threatening wounds.

The Sparks Police Department and SWAT team responded to the Motel 6 at the 2400-block of Victorian Ave. on Tuesday, September 18. According to SPD, a suspect barricade himself after a warrant was issued for his arrest due to a firearm violation for being an ex-convict.
