UofI student accused of aiming pellet gun at police in custody

A University of Illinois student is in jail after police say he pointed a pellet gun at them, causing them to shoot him last week. 23-year-old Samuel Applebaum of Flossmoor was shot Thursday after he called police to the intersection of John and Locust around 6:30 p.m. Police said he made the call, claiming there was a man loading a semi-automatic weapon.

Family, Friends and Veterans Lay David Freyling to Rest Friday

July 13 - A large number of family, friends, fellow veterans and members of the community gathered at First United Methodist Church in Decatur to say good-bye to David Freyling Friday morning. The Reverend Miley Palmer said that Freyling, who served in the Army during the Korean War and in West Germany during the time of the construction of the Berlin Wall with the 82nd Airborne Division, was a committed servant to the community, and to the large amount of veterans in the Decatur and Macon County area.
