Suspected drunk driver charged in fatal crash

A 21-year-old Troy man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal crash in Rochester Hills on June 10. Police say around 12:19 a.m., Alexander Munch was driving eastbound on South Boulevard when the car drove left of center and through a ditch, striking a utility pole. The front seat passenger, Talon Dawson, was killed in the crash.

Two deadly single-car crashes reported in less than a week

The woman died in a 3:43 p.m. June 5 single-car crash on M-59, at Adams Road, a police report states. The woman, a Waterford Township resident, was driving a 2015 Ford Fusion westbound on M-59 when her car left the roadway, struck a traffic sign and entered a ditch before coming to rest.

A $55 million apartment development, Midtown Apartments, will proceed on the site of an existing FedEx distribution center after the Troy City Council unanimously approved a brownfield redevelopment plan. In a June 7 email to parents and staff in the Troy School District, Kerry Birmingham, director of communications and strategic initiatives, states that a man in a gray four-door sedan on southbound Ellenboro Drive opened his window and asked the mother of a student for directions to McDonald's. Ellenboro Drive is between Vanderpool and Trombley drives.

Troy crews extricate man trapped in SUV on Livernois

A witness reportedly told firefighters that a vehicle struck this Trailblazer, causing it to roll over and pinning a man inside on Livernois Road the morning of June 1. Troy firefighters freed a man pinned in a Chevy Trailblazer that had rolled over on Livernois Road, north of Town Center Drive, in front of Zion Christian Church, just after 11 a.m. June 1. A witness told firefighters that another vehicle had struck the Trailblazer, causing it to roll, according to a fire report. Crews arrived to find the Trailblazer on its side in the center lane of Livernois Road, according to a prepared statement.

Environmental protection zoning reversed for new housing development

The Troy City Council unanimously approved a rezoning request and a cluster zoning site plan for Whispering Park, a 50-home development proposed for an 18-acre parcel of vacant land known as Section 11. After a study on demographics and building usage, Troy School District officials and the Board of Education determined that the undeveloped district-owned parcels of land - about 180 acres in total, including Section 11 - will not be needed for any additional schools, with the exception of a proposed early childhood learning center. The school board voted 4-0 to approve a purchase agreement for Section 11 with Joe Maniaci, of Mondrian Properties, for $4.25 million at its June 20, 2017, meeting.
